Ramada Jarvis Hotel Les
Reunion in Leicester 2006

The Ramada Jarvis Hotel Leicester was the venue for the Associations 8th Annual Reunion. Held over the weekend of the 28th - 30th April 2006 numbers were down greatly on previous years. However that didn't dampen the spirits of those who did attend and once again members travelled from far and wide to enjoy a chat over a few beers in the company of old friends in comfortable surroundings.

With a mailing list of over 200 we have been aware for some time now that our membership had outgrown the Ramada Jarvis Hotel in Loughborough and with the prediction that numbers would be high in 2006 it was decided seek out larger accommodation.

The Ramada Jarvis Hotel is located right in the heart of Leicester with free parking for 120 vehicles offering easy access to other nearby attractions including Drayton Manor Theme Park, Twycross Zoo and the National Space Science Centre. So this seemed the obvious solution to our overcrowding problem.

Through our long standing relationship with the Ramada Jarvis in Loughborough John Townson, Geoff & Beryl Scott between them managed to secure a competitive rate for our stay at Leicester. The down side was we would be leaving behind the staff at Loughborough which we had formed a strong bond with over the years, but we were confident we could quickly establish the same kind of rapport with the staff at Leicester. As it turned out the Leicester hotel fail to meet all our expectations and bar prices were considerably higher than the Loughborough hotel so the troops went on a forage to seek out a friendly watering hole. As it happened the hotel was conveniently located to Witherspoons next door. Witherspoons must have heard we were coming and had plenty of stock on hand so we failed in our attempts to drink the bar dry again this year.

The Committee are now actively looking around for a new central UK venue for our future reunions.

What a surprise who did I spot when we walked in Alec Forbes who I have not seen since 1969 & then John Taylor arrived on his bike. Anyway while Mal was checking in I went & got a beer & started to chat to Alec about old times. I'd just like to thank everyone connected with organising such a great reunion. Ted Taylor (Scouse)"
